Sassafras and Olinda Sweet Company
April / May 2012 saw the epic installation of a complete interior makeover of The Sassafras & Olinda Sweet Company in the Dandenong Ranges. Mia was contracted as the designer and project manager to deliver a revitalized look enhancing the magic of these traditional sweet shops. The approach was to bring lightness, colour and texture into the stores, and to truly allow the wonderful product to shine bright. Check out the before and after pics! Mia designed and manufactured bespoke wall paper for the stores created from photographing the colourful stock, she also created a hand made light feature for each store created from a combination of ribbons, trims and old world trinkets. Original shelving was painted and reutilized with the added features of new Perspex shelving, free standing units and window boxes. Mia worked with a fantastic team of local tradespeople who worked consistently to deliver this transformation in a rapid 2 and a half week turnaround. Be sure to take a drive up to the gorgeous Dandenong Ranges towns of Sassafras and Olinda and drop by the stores for some magical, nostalgic, delicious sweet shopping
